Quantum, Without a Quantum Computer: Compete With Just a GPU
aiquantumopensourcemachinelearning
TL;DR
Quantum computers are hard to get near. The Open Quantum Challenge removes that barrier: you compete on quantum problems with only a GPU and a public harness. Two seasons, quantum simulation and QEC decoding, a 2,000 USD prize pool, and an on-ramp that is literally copy the guide and paste it into Claude Code.

The barrier this removes
Access to quantum hardware is the usual wall between curious engineers and real quantum work. But simulating quantum systems and decoding quantum error correction are classical computations you can run on a GPU today. The challenge turns that into an open competition, so a GPU and some time are all you need to take part.
Two seasons
- Season 1: quantum simulation, reproduce a quantum system accurately in software.
- Season 2: QEC decoder, correct errors on coded quantum states.
The easiest on-ramp you will see
- Open https://huggingface.co/spaces/FINAL-Bench/open-quantum-challenge
- Copy the guide.
- Paste it into Codex or Claude Code.
- Submit against the public harness.
An agentic coding tool handles the setup, so you can go from curious to submitted in one sitting.
FAQ
Do I need a quantum computer? No. Just a GPU and the public harness.
What do I actually build? A quantum simulator in Season 1, a QEC decoder in Season 2.
How do I start fast? Copy the guide from the Space and paste it into Claude Code or Codex.
What is the prize? A total of 2,000 USD.
